Jeff Snyder - President and CEO
Jeff Snyder is a leading professional in the communications satellite and space industry. He was one of the founding members of XM Satellite Radio and was the chief technical executive from the company's inception. Mr. Snyder was most recently Senior Vice President, Satellite Engineering and Operations at LightSquared responsible for the procurement, engineering, and operation of LightSquared's mobile communications satellite fleet and its ground-based systems. In 2011, he delivered a $750M mobile satellite system with North American coverage which is fully operational. The system featured one of the most capable MSS satellites, launched to date, which has the largest deployable reflector ever launched on a commercial satellite, at 22 meters in diameter. The system is very flexible as a result of its state-of-the-art ground-based beam forming system which is capable of forming 500 narrow spot beams over the coverage area in both the return and forward directions.Snyder was Senior Vice President, Space and Ground Systems at XM Satellite Radio, the largest satellite radio company in the world with over 9.5 million subscribers. Mr. Snyder was the driving force at XM Satellite Radio of the technical development, program implementation, contract management, and regulatory affairs for the XM Satellite Radio system. He managed the satellite construction, launch, and operations, implemented the nationwide repeater system and operations, and directed the systems engineering of the entire system including the waveform and early chipset development. Mr. Snyder was at XM Satellite Radio from 1999 to 2008. Before XM Radio, Mr. Snyder was the Vice President of Space Systems for Worldspace Corporation and managed the development and delivery of the Afristar and Asiastar satellites for the the first commerical radio broadcast system. Afristar was launched by Arianespace in October 1998. At Lockheed Martin, Mr. Snyder held various roles in business development and sales, program management, engineering, and manufacturing. He was instrumental in the establishment of a joint venture with a Russian Partner and in a key INMARSAT pursuit. He also was the successful capture manager for the INTELSAT VIII and VIIIA satellites, six satellites total, bringing in $500 million in new business. He served as the deputy program manager for those programs. Mr. Snyder also was the payload manager for the ACeS satellite, a large geostationary mobile telephony system covering Asia. Prior to Lockheed Martin, Mr. Snyder held various positions at GE Astrospace and GE/RCA Americom as program manager and in systems engineering. Mr. Snyder is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, MD with a BS in Engineering.
